How Water Fuels the World
(5th grade) Sarrah - 1st place regional, 1st and 2nd place in 2 auxiliary awards for environmentalism, exemplary project at state competition
The previous year, I investigated what it would take to install solar panels on my house. This year, I was curious how much power could be generated from the slope of the hill on my property. I ran a hose from a reservoir of water at the top of my hill to a hydroelectric turbine installed at different elevations down the hill and measured power production at each of them. I found that the higher the elevation, the more energy was produced.
At the regional NCSEF competition, I won first place, along with first in the North Carolina American Water Works Association prize and second place in the Pulse of the Planet regional recognition. At the state competition, I received recognition for an exemplary project (the Elementary division didn't have places).
