Carbon Capture Concrete! Will NaOH, as an additive to DIY concrete bricks, help lower your carbon footprint?

(8th grade) Sarrah- 1st and advancing to state in 2 regional competitions, 2nd place in state, top 300 in the country

As a continuation project from last year, Carbon Capture Concrete! focused on implementing the carbon sequestration technology I developed the previous year and turning it into a usable product. I did this by adding different concentrations of sodium hydroxide to Quikrete mix and forming a brick to use as a building material. I then tested the efficacy of the brick as a sequestration tool in numerous trials. I determined that the addition of sodium hydroxide increased the brick's sequestration abilities greatly, however, the difference in concentration had little effect.

I took my project to the regional North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair and North Carolina Student Academy of Science competitions and won first place at NCSEF, and was promoted to the state competition for NCSAS. At the state competition, I won second place in NCSEF and was invited to compete in the national science fair competition Broadcom MASTERS, where I was chosen as one of the top 300 MASTERS projects in the country.
