Amazing Perspective
This was my first math fair project. I decided I wanted to enter the math fair after my sister's experience in kindergarten. I did this project independently, investigating the math behind anamorphic perspective, which is a visual arts technique that requires the viewer to be in a specific location to recognize an image. There are lots of really cool examples of this that have been done by artists using sidewalk chalk. Google it- it's so cool. I liked the idea of exploring an art concept using math. I also created a very simple example so viewers could see how it works. The feedback I got from the judges was that this topic was more appropriate for a science fair than a math fair, and that I needed a topic that delved deeper into one or more math concepts. The grade 3-5 level has the most participants, and the competition gets a lot tougher at this level.
